Botanical information: Apigenin is described as a nonmutagenic bioflavonoid which is presented in leafy plants and vegetables (e.g., Chamomile, parsley, artichoke, basil, celery) and has significant chemopreventive activity against UV-radiation. Current research trials indicate that apigenin may reduce DNA oxidative damage; inhibit the growth of human leukemia cells and induced these cells to differentiate; inhibit cancer cell signal transduction and induce apoptosis; apigenin act as an anti-inflammatory; and as an anti-***smodic or ***smolytic. Apigenin is a flavone that is the aglycone of apiin, isolated from parsley and celery, and apigetrin. Parsley, including both leaf and root type, is a member of the same family as celery: Umbelliferae. Parsley is high in oxalic acid, a compound involved in the formation of kidney stones and nutrient deficiencies.Celery grows to a height of 12 to 16 inches and is composed of leaf-topped stalks arranged in a conical shape that are joined at a common base. It is a biennial vegetable plant that belongs to the Umbelliferae family. While most people associate celery with its prized stalks, the leaves, roots and seeds can also be used as a food and seasoning as well as a natural medicinal remedy. Standard extract effect and application: As with many flavonoids, apigenin has potential to reduce the risk of cancer since it has anti-tumor activity. Apigenin also could potentially be useful in allergic conditions since it owns anti-inflammatory properties.
Apigenin is a nontoxic dietary flavonoid that has been shown to possess anti-tumor properties and therefore poses special interest for the development of a novel chemopreventive and/or chemotherapeutic agent for cancer. Ovarian cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer death among women. Apigenin inhibited expression of HIF-1alpha and VEGF via the PI3K/AKT/p70S6K1 and HDM2/p53 pathways. Apigenin inhibited tube formation in vitro by endothelial cells. These findings reveal a novel role of apigenin in inhibiting |
